Sapkota (Nepali: सापकोटा, Sapkota) is a surname among the Upadhya Brahmin/Bahun, Jaisi Bahun, Khas, KC or Chhetri families in Nepal and Indian states Uttarakhand, Sikkim and some part of North and northeast India.

The surname is historically thought to have originated in the present-day Kashmir region of India during the Mughal invasion in that region where Kashmiri pandits fled for their lives to protect their families upon being given two choices by the Mughals, either to convert to Islam or face the death penalty, Lumbini where it is amongst the most common Brahmin surnames. Today, the name is found across Nepal, as well as in the states of India.
