シワ・オアシス

シワ・オアシス、シーワ・オアシス^[1]（Siwa Oasis、アラビア語: واحة سيوة‎ Wāḥat Sīwah：語源ベルベル語 Siwa："犠牲の鳥; 太陽神ラーの守護者"^[2]) は、エジプトの西部砂漠（リビア砂漠）のカッターラ低地とエジプト砂海の間にあり、リビア国境から約50km、カイロから560kmに位置するオアシス。^[3]^[4]^[5]

人口：23,000名
居住者：一般的に、シワ語を話すベルベル人^[3]

- 農業（ナツメヤシ、オリーブ > エクストラ・ヴァージン・オリーブ・オイル：エジプト、ヨーロッパへ流通）

歴史

紀元前10世紀、居住があったと考えられている
古代エジプト第26王朝、ネクロポリスを建設、Sekht-am（椰子の土地）と命名^[3]^[6]
- この頃アモン神の神殿があったという^[7]
紀元前7世紀、キュレネのギリシャ人はシワと連絡を持つ
ヘロドトスの時代には、アモン（ゼウス）神託として機能^[6]
アレクサンドロス3世（大王）は、ペルシア帝国遠征前に砂漠を飛んでいた鳥を追って、シワオアシスに到着
古代ローマは、流刑地として使用
1203年、7家族40名が居住（地域記録）
1792年、イギリス人旅行者William George Browneが到達^[3]
1819年、ムハンマド・アリーによりエジプトに加盟
第二次世界大戦時、イギリス軍、ドイツアフリカ軍団駐留
2007年、300万年以上前の人類の足跡が発見される（最古の人類の足跡）^[8]

気候

6～9月は平均気温が35度Cを超え、12～3月は25度Cを下回る。雨はほとんど降らない。

農業遺産

シワ・オアシスは2016年に、古代エジプト時代から続くオアシスでの灌漑農業が評価され、国連食糧農業機関の世界重要農業遺産システム（世界農業遺産）に登録された^[9]。
