ライオネル・トリリング

ライオネル・トリリング（Lionel Trilling、1905年7月4日 - 1975年11月5日^[1]）は、アメリカ合衆国の批評家。

人物・来歴

ニューヨーク出身。コロンビア大学で学び、同大学で英文学を講じながら「ケニヨン・レビュー」、「パーティザン・レビュー」誌で批評活動を行う。フロイトの心理学を文学研究の基調として自我と文化環境の緊張関係を考察する。『誠実とほんもの』は、ルソーによって「仮面をつけた真実」がなくなったとする文化史批評である。ほかの著書は「マシュー・アーノルド論」(1939年)など^[2]。

妻のダイアナ・トリリング（英語版）^[3]も作家・批評家。門下にノーマン・ポドレツがいる。
